Liwonde National Park

Liwonde National Park in Malawi has been dedicated to the QCC.
Liwonde National Park is situated along the Shire River between Lake Malombe and the town of Liwonde. It covers 54,800 hectares of mostly mopane woodland, floodplains, grasslands, swamp and lagoons. It is home to large populations of the game animals of Malawi, including over 600 elephants and a viable, but currently threatened, population of black rhinoceros.
African Parks have managed Liwonde since 2015 which has helped cause a huge decline illegal activities in the park, including degradation of the forest which was being targeted for firewood, charcoal and building materials.
There are many Village Natural Resource Management Committees who are engaged with and involved in management of the park, and a number of community initiatives taking place, from education support to livelihood programmes, and human/wildlife conflict mitigation.
