Description
The Environmental Rights Action is a grass root Nigerian environmental advocacy group for the protection
of the environment and the democratization of development. Founded in 1993, ERA
campaigns peacefully as a pressure group committed to improving the policies of government, commercial
and non- governmental organizations where those policies are likely to act against
environmental human rights. ERA's goal for environmental justice is to empower local people to legally
defend their environmental human rights and mobilize their capacity for development efforts.
ERA programme areas includes natural resource and conservation; energy and mining; environmental education;
gender and environment; legal resource; and media and publication. ERA as grassroots
organization is based on community resource centre, and on individual, community group, government or
non governmental organizations which shares and which can demonstrate a commitment to the
era philosophy.
