From September 21 to 28, 2003, the international
forestry community will meet in Québec City, Canada, for the XII World
Forestry Congress. For seven days, participants as individuals and from
various governments, education and research, private and non-government
organizations will get together to analyze, discuss and participate in the
largest and most important forestry meeting world-wide. The XII World Forestry
Congress will be an open forum where discussion will focus on individuals,
communities and forests under the theme “Forests, source of life”.

ITTO, the Kerala Forest
Research Institute and IUFRO Working Party 5.06.02 will convene an
international conference on quality timber products of teak from sustainable
forest management, 2–5 December 2003. Funded by itto project pd 151/02 (i),
the conference will deliberate on:
· teak quality in plantation, including
the role of teak plantations in carbon sequestration;
· the potential of teak in sustainable
management; and
· and the upgrading and transfer of
technology.
Other organisations that
will play a role in the conference include teaknet, teak 2000, forspa,
cirad-Forêt and the School of Bioagricultural Science at Nagoya University,
Japan.
