• International Forestry Students Association (IFSA)                                                                                      The primary goal of IFSA is to enrich forestry students´ formal education, especially in terms of a wider, more global perspective through extracurricular activities and the exchange of information and experience.

   

  IFSA promotes co-operation among forestry students, and establishes links with other international organisations in areas such as forestry, environmental protection, higher education, economy and social development. IFSA intends to contribute to a more complete professional preparation for its members, as well as to represent their interests in the international community.

   

  CFA is a primary partner of IFSA.  The two organisations work together to support the link between forestry students and forestry professionals.

• Carbon Sinks and Sequestration - WRI
  A good portal on climate change, forests, international negotiations, etc.

• CIDA Forestry Advisers Network (CFAN)
  The CFAN website is posting new information on climate change and on the recent seminar held in November 2001 entitled "Forestry, Climate Change and Development Opportunities".

• Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)
  The official website of the IPCC with numerous documents on all aspects of climate change and the negotiations on the implementation of the Convention including the recent "Summary for Policymakers: Land Use, Land Use Change, Forestry".

• LINKAGES: International Institute for Sustainable Development
  An excellent entry point for current and background information on the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC).

• UNFCC Website
  The official website of the UNFCC including the full text of the Convention and the Kyoto Protocol, links to numerous other resources.

• West Coast Environmental Law
  A good collection of background papers on climate change and the UNFCC negotiations.

• World Meteorological Organization
  The official website of the WMO with information on climate change detection and climate monitoring.

  Conservation International's (CI) mission is to conserve the Earth's living natural heritage, our global bio diversity, and to demonstrate that human societies are able to live harmoniously with nature.

• Forest Conservation Portal
  works to end deforestation, preserve old-growth forests, conserve and sustainably manage other forests, maintain climatic systems and commence the age of ecological restoration.

• IUCN Forest Conservation Programme
  The maintenance and, where necessary, restoration of forest ecosystems to promote the conservation and sustainable management of forests, and equitable distribution of a wide range of forest goods and services.

  Gateway to a number of UN websites on sustainable development topics - Agenda 21, forests, Rio+10,etc.

  The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations; databases, online magazine, reports.

• International Development Research Centre (IDRC)
  The International Development Research Centre is a public corporation created by the Canadian government to help communities in the developing world find solutions to social, economic, and environmental problems through research.

• Sustainable Development Gateway
  A collection of reports / articles on climate change.

• World Bank
  The World Bank's mission is to reduce poverty and improve living standards through sustainable growth and investment in people. The Bank is aware that in many of its client countries, forests play an important role in achieving this purpose. The website has some useful online documents, particularly those related to forest policy.

  Home CIFOR is a global knowledge organisation committed to enhancing the benefits of forests for people in the tropics. CIFOR was established under the CGIAR system in response to global concerns about the social, environmental and economic consequences of loss and degradation of forests.

• CATIE - Centro Agronómico Tropical de Investigación y Enseñanza
  Located in Turrialba, Costa Rica; CATIE is a research and education centre for agriculture and forestry.

• CGIAR Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research
  Gateway to the CGIAR network of research centres including CIFOR and ICRAF, numerous online publications.

    A quarterly international journal of forestry and forest industries published by FAO.

  • State of the World's Forests
    Published every two years to give the most comprehensive and up-to-date picture available of the status of forests worldwide and new developments in the forestry sector.

• Forest Stewardship Council
  The Forest Stewardship Council is an international non-profit organisation founded in 1993 to support environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world's forests.

• Forests, Trees, and People Programme & Network
  The network is designed to share information about improving community forestry activities and about initiatives of interest to its members. Some online publications and reviews of manuals, working papers, and other reports that can be ordered.

• Global Canopy Programme                                                                                                                        A global alliance linking studies of forest canopies worldwide into a collaborative programme of research, education and conservation addressing biodiversity, climate change and poverty alleviation

• ICRAF - International Centre for Agroforestry Research
  ICRAF has changed its name to the World Agroforestry Centre.  See link below.

• International Tropical Timber Organisation (ITTO)
  The International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) was created by treaty in 1983 and its headquarters was established in Yokohama, Japan, in late 1986. The primary idea is to provide an effective framework for consultation among producer and consumer member countries on all aspects of the world timber economy within its mandate. Website has an extensive online library.

• International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO)
  IUFRO is a non-profit, non-governmental international network of forest scientists. Its objectives are to promote international cooperation in forestry and forest products research.

• Royal Forestry Society
  Furthering the appreciation, understanding and knowledge of trees, woods and forests.

• Tropenbos Foundation
  A Dutch foundation working in tropical forest research, also website of the European Tropical Forest Research Network.

• UK Forestry Commission
  The Forestry Commission of Great Britain is the government department responsible for the protection and expansion of Britain's forests and woodlands.

• World Agroforestry Centre                                                                                                                  The World Agroforestry Centre combines excellence in scientific research and development to address global poverty, hunger and environmental needs through collaborative programs and partnerships that transform lives and landscapes locally and globally.

• Centre for Social Forestry
  The establishment of CSF is aimed at building capacity of Unmul staff in curriculum development, research, training and exstension activities in social forestry.

• The Overstory
  The Overstory is a free e-mail agroforestry journal for practitioners, researchers, professionals, and enthusiasts. One issue is sent every two weeks focusing on a concept in related to designing, developing, and learning more about agroforestry systems. Each edition includes project development strategies, brief book recommendations, species highlights and internet links to helpful information for agroforesters.
