Description

FORESTS MONITOR aims to contribute to the debate about sustainable forest management by collating and disseminating information on companies operating in the forestry sector around the world. The forestry sector has traditionally operated without independent scrutiny and we work to increase transparency and accountability of the sector.

Forests Monitor was established in July 1993 in response to the need for corporate based information in the forestry sector. We are a non-profit making, non-governmental organisation incorporated as a private limited company in January 1995. Forests Monitor is in Roster Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.

Aims of the organisation:

- To provide detailed research and analysis of forestry companies to NGOs and citizens' groups directly affected by those companies so that, through increased knowledge and understanding, they are able to empower themselves to make informed decisions about their future and to lobby more effectively.

- To research, analyse and raise awareness of forestry companies’ activities and the links between trade, investment and deforestation.
