Description
Environmental Alert (EA) is a development Non Governmental Organisation founded in 1988 with the purpose
of addressing rural development issues and natural resources management. The mission
of the organisation is to contribute to sustainable development thereby improving the livelihood of
vulnerable rural and urban communities through increased agricultural productivity and sound natural
resource management practices.
Environmental Alert was born out of the need to address the alarmingly low levels of agricultural productivity,
the high levels of food insecurity, low incomes in the urban and rural poor communities in
addition to protecting against rapid degradation of natural resources on which community livelihood
depended.
The organisation has since grown into a national Non Governmental Organisation that takes pride in being
a lead NGO in networking, participatory planning at grass roots level and lobbying of
government and stakeholders on important environmental and natural resource management issues.
Presently, EA is one of the leading environmental NGOs in Uganda involved in the field of sustainable
natural resources management, capacity building and policy advocacy in the environmental sector.
