 THE INDIAN SUB-CONTINENT
By far the greatest amount of research on the forests of the sub continent has always been
carried out in the country that is now the Republic of India. Most of the generalised historical
account given here is a guide also to Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka but, notwithstanding
the enormous range of agro-ecological zones in the region, both the past achievements and
the challenges for the future may be considered on a regional scale
