Increasingly the forest industry has recognized that in many areas it needs a social license to
operate, particularly on public land and that cultures, particularly indigenous cultures, are an
important part of finding a sustainable business solution. The challenge is to define the
boundaries of this new business environment and many Commonwealth countries have made
remarkable progress in the last decade.
